Death Star Creator Colin Cantwell at Cab Comics

Death Star Creator Colin Cantwell will be in Flagstaff, Arizona!

Colin Cantwell created the iconic ships and made the models for the first Star Wars’ film “A New Hope”.
His designs included the First Millennium Falcon, TIE Fighter, X-Wing, Death Star, Imperial Cruiser, Sand Crawler, Sky Hopper etc.
He also designed the opening scene for Star Wars including the scrolling introduction and the ominous ship rumbliing overhead.

In addition to Star Wars, Colin worked closely with Stanley Kubrick and was responsible for suggesting all of the music, (except the Blue Danube) as well as designing the opening scene and other space scenes for the “2001 A Space Odyssey” movie.
He sat behind Walter Cronkite as the “Hal 9000 Computer” that gave Walter information on the progress of the first moon landing.
worked on War Games, Buck Rogers, Close Encounters of a Third Kind and other films.
He developed the first multi-5000 color computer monitor for HP,
designed and directing the first Imax (Then Omnimax) theater in San Diego,worked for NASA on space projects and more ….

Guadalupe Boys & Girls Club Day For Kids

Boys & Girls Clubs of the East Valley is gearing up to celebrate its annual Day for Kids to highlight the critical needs of kids and teens in the community. Today, too many youth are facing serious issues that can deprive them of a happy healthy childhood and negatively impact their future. Day for Kids celebrates the life changing work taking place at Boys & Girls Clubs each day by encouraging adults to spend meaningful time with young people and engage in fun and active play. This year’s Day for Kids will be celebrated with 200 parents and kids participating in an event at the Thunderbirds Guadalupe Boys & Girls Club.

CHAMP 5K Run/Walk for a Cure for Childhood Cancer

Event Description: "The community will run/walk towards a cure for childhood cancer at Kiwanis Park. The CHAMP 5k is a regional collaborative event in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. CHAMP provides resources and support to those affected by this life-threatening disease. All proceeds will directly benefit local nonprofits that help fight childhood cancer.

CHAMP’s goal is simple: Help stop childhood cancer. Through relationships with cancer related organizations, CHAMP has created a mission to bring light to childhood cancer issues and help advance childhood cancer causes. The event will feature a 5k, pancake breakfast, survivor walk, bone marrow drive and blood drive.

You can take part in helping to eradicate childhood cancer by supporting these organizations that are committed to research towards a cure. Every year, 13,000 children are diagnosed with cancer in the United States.

• 5k: Run or walk to recognize the children who have fought, are fighting, or yet to be diagnosed with Childhood Cancer.
• Share a delicious breakfast with fellow Childhood Cancer Supporters, families of Cancer Warriors, and the Champions.
• The Cancer Survivor Walk is a short loop walk that celebrates the champions who are present and those who have passed away.
• Activity Booths: Enjoy family fun activities, and learn about the organizations which serve the childhood cancer population of Arizona.
• Bone Marrow Drive: Community residents will be swabbing their cheeks to join the Be The Match Registry as potential bone marrow donors.
• Blood Drive: Blood transfusions an essential part of the treatment for children on Chemotherapy.
